1 Nephi 21 & Isaiah 49

Context for inclusion in the Book of Mormon:

Nephi seems to be setting the pattern for the small plates by recording scripture from the brass plates

1 Nephi 19:23 And I did read many things unto them which were written in the abooks of Moses; but that I might more fully persuade them to believe in the Lord their Redeemer I did read unto them that which was written by the prophet bIsaiah; for I did cliken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our dprofit and learning.

24 Wherefore I spake unto them, saying: Hear ye the words of the prophet, ye who are a aremnant of the house of Israel, a bbranch who have been broken off; chear ye the words of the prophet, which were written unto all the house of Israel, and liken them unto yourselves, that ye may have hope as well as your brethren from whom ye have been broken off; for after this manner has the prophet written.

And again: Hearken, O ye house of Israel, all ye that are broken off and are driven out because of the wickedness of the pastors of my people; yea, all ye that are broken off, that are scattered abroad, who are of my people, O house of Israel. Listen, O bisles, unto me, and hearken ye people from cfar; the Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.  Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.  Hear me, O islands, and listen peoples, from afar; YHWH called me from the womb; from my mother’s belly He caused my name to be remembered.
And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;  And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me;  And he has put my mouth {&as&} a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand He hid me, and made me [+a lamed-kaph overwrite+] as a polished arrow; [partial erased “be’ash”] in his quiver he hid me;
And said unto me: Thou art my aservant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.  And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.  And He said to me, You are my servant Israel, in whom I will be glorified.
Then I said, I have labored in avain, I have spent my strength for naught and in vain; surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.  Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.  Then I said, for emptiness I have toiled, my strength for a void and a vapor I have spent surely my judgment is with YHWH and my work with my God.
And now, saith the Lord—that aformed me from the womb that I should be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him—though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my bstrength.  ¶ And now, saith the Lord that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my strength.  And now, says YHWH who formed you from the womb to serve him, to return Jacob to him, and to gather Israel to him, and I shall be glorious in the eyes of YHWH, and my God shall be my strength.
And he said: It is a light thing that thou shouldst be my servant to raise up the atribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel. I will also give thee for a blight to the cGentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the ends of the earth.  And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.  And he said, Is it a light thing from your being to me a servant to {&waw&} raise up the tribes of Israel [m,,Jacob,] and to restore the Nazarenes of Jacob [m..Israel]: I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, to be my salvation {Yeshua] to the end of the earth.
Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nations abhorreth, to servant of rulers: Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful.  Thus saith the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the Lord that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.  Thus says the Lord YHWH your Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to those despising his soul, to him who the nation counts an abomination, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes shall worship, for the sake of YHWH who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, shall choose you.
Thus saith the Lord: In an acceptable time have I heard thee, O isles of the sea, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee; and I will preserve thee, and give thee amy servant for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;  Thus saith the Lord, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;  Thus says YHWH, In an excellent time have I heard you, and in a day of salvation [Yeshua] I helped you: and I will {&dot&} preserve [make Nazarene] you, and I will give you for a covenant of
8. the people, to raise up the earth, to cause them to inherit heritages of desolation;
That thou mayest say to the aprisoners: Go forth; to them that sit in bdarkness: Show yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their cpastures shall be in all high places.  That thou mayest say to the prisoners, Go forth; to them that are in darkness, Shew yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.  saying to the prisoners, Go out; to those who are in darkness, reveal yourselves. upon [+all+] the mountains [m..roadways] they shall feed, and in all the high places of their pastures
10 They shall not hunger nor thirst, neither shall the heat nor the sun smite them; for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.  10 They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water shall he guide them.  They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall it strike them the heat nor the sun : for he has mercy on them shall lead them, and onto the springs of water he guides them.
11 And I will make all my mountains a way, and my ahighways shall be exalted.  11 And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.  And I will set all my mountains as a roadway [+u-mes a redundancy], and my highways shall be exalted.
12 And then, O house of Israel, behold, athese shall come from far; and lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.  12 Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.  Behold, these shall come from far: and behold, these from the north and west; and these from the land of China [m..Sinim].
13 aSing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; for the feet of those who are in the east shall be established; and bbreak forth into singing, O mountains; for they shall be smitten no more; for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his cafflicted.  13 ¶ Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.  Sing, O heavens; and rejoice, O earth; and break out into singing, O mountains: because YHWH has comforted his people, and on the afflicted He will have mercy.
14 But, behold, Zion hath said: The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me—but he will show that he hath not.  14 But Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.  But Zion said, YHWH has forsaken me, and my Lord {&my God&} has forgotten me.
15 For can a awoman forget her sucking child, that she should not have bcompassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may cforget, yet will I not forget thee, O house of Israel.  15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb?  yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.  Can a woman forget her sucking child, from having mercy on the son of her womb? also they can forget, but I will not forget.
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the apalms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.  16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.  Behold, I have inscribed you upon the hands; your walls are before me continually.
17 Thy children shall make haste against thy destroyers; and they that made thee awaste shall go forth of thee.  17 Thy children shall make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee.  Your sons shall hurry; your destroyers and your desolators shall go out from you.
18 Lift up thine eyes round about and behold; all these agather themselves together, and they shall come to thee. And as I live, saith the Lord, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on even as a bride.  18 ¶ Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the Lord, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride doeth.  [Lift up – misspelled] your eyes round about, and see all of them are gathered together, and come to you. As I live, says YHWH, all of them as an ornament you shall wear and bind them on as like a bride
19 For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants; and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away.  19 For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away.   because your waste and your desolate places, and your destroyed earth, even now shall be too narrow for the inhabitants, and they will be far off the ones who swallowed you
20 The children whom thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the first, shall aagain in thine ears say: The place is too strait for me; give place to me that I may dwell.  20 The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.  Yet they shall say in your ears even the children of your bereavement, The place is too narrow for me: bring to me a place where I may dwell.
21 Then shalt thou say in thine heart: Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am adesolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? And who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where have they been?  21 Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?  Then shall you say in your heart, Who has borne me these, seeing I am bereaved and I am barren, a captive, turned aside and who raised these? Behold, I was left a remnant by myself; these, where were they?
22 Thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the aGentiles, and set up my bstandard to the people; and they shall bring thy sons in their carms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.  22 Thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.   because YHWH [m..+Lord God+] [+commands+] saying , Behold, I will lift up my hand to the Gentiles, and to the nations I will raise up my ensign: and they shall bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.
23 And akings shall be thy bnursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers; they shall bow down to thee with their face towards the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord; for they shall not be ashamed that cwait for me.  23 And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.  And there shall be kings as your guardians, and their queens your nurses: they shall worship you with their faces to the earth, and lick the dust of your feet; and you shall know that I am YHWH: for they shall not be ashamed [*] who wait for me.
24 For shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the alawful captives delivered?  24 ¶ Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?  Shall that which is taken be taken from the mighty, or the terrorist’s captive be delivered?
25 But thus saith the Lord, even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered; for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.  25 But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.  Because thus says YHWH, Also that taken by the mighty shall be taken, and the captives of the terrorist shall be delivered: for I will strive with him who strives{&yod&} with you, and I will save your sons.
26 And I will afeed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; they shall be drunken with their own blood as with sweet wine; and all flesh shall bknow that I, the Lord, am thy cSavior and thy Redeemer, the dMighty One of Jacob.  26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.  And I will feed those oppressing you with their flesh; and as in fresh grape juice they shall be drunk with their blood and they shall know even all flesh that I YHWH am your Savior and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.
