Hieratic Fragments from Tell el-Far’ah (South)

Two ostraca found at Tell el-Far’ah, an archeological site between Jerusalem and Nazareth, contain together seven lines of Egyptian Hieratic, while these pottery sherds could not be dated conventionally, the language suggest 19th or 20th dynasty, “with quite a clear stress on the 20th dynasty” which lasted from 1189 to 1077 BC. This is evidence of the use of egyptian writing, or reformed egyptian, among Hebrew speakers shortly before the time of Lehi. in this case about 500 years.
