Swine are mentioned twice within the Book of Mormon as fauna of ancient America, yet no true swine are known to have ever existed in America prior to European introduction. Independent researcher Richard Durrant presents a case that Peccary are likely the species which is being referred to, additionally, upon researching the language and scientific understanding of 1829 when the Book of Mormon was translated, swine would be considered both an appropriate and accurate reference to the species. The presence of peccarys in ancient Mesoamerican culture and Book of Mormon culture is also explored as well as the potential impact of this understanding on different geographic models
